Meet Megan
I’m Megan and I’m on Instagram spreading awareness about medical trauma in the chronic illness community. I share the reality of living life in chronic pain and encourage patients who have been mistreated by their doctors to advocate for themselves.
Q: How has hair impacted your life?
I live in chronic head pain due to nerve damage + my skull is sensitive to the touch. Before I discovered Gimme Beauty’s hair ties a few years ago I was only able to wear soft scrunchies in my hair. I tried the long and curly fit with a ponytail and it was perfect. I was able to wrap the band around three times without it feeling too tight. I was hooked on Gimme after that.
Q: Do you have any hair insecurities, how have you embraced them?
I’ve been attached to my long hair since my mom chopped it to shoulder length when I was in junior high. I vowed to never let her give me a “trim” again and once it grew out I kept it long. Long hair isn’t the best style option when you live in chronic head pain. I often feel like my head is too heavy for my neck and having a lot of hair only exacerbates that.
Q: What advice can you give to someone about being confident w/ themselves + their hair?
I’ve found that self-love and confidence go hand-in-hand. When you’re comfortable in your own skin, confidence comes more naturally. Start by accepting yourself just the way you are.
If you live with a chronic illness, I want to encourage you to embrace your strengths instead of focusing on your weaknesses.
Q: Fave gimme product?
Gimme Bands are my holy grail.
I use the long + curly fit for high ponys + buns, the thick fit for half-up styles, and the fine fit for braids.
