Which Gimme Detangling Brush is Right for Me?
We can’t brush past one of the most important parts of haircare: detangling. Not all brushes are created equal, and each hair type is so unique. It’s why, at Gimme, we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to our brushes—whether your hair is fine, thick, or somewhere in between, we’ve designed a brush that’s intentionally made for your hair type. Let’s break it down together:
If you have fine hair:
Fine hair girlies know the struggle: thinner strands can be ultra-sensitive, prone to breakage, and don’t do well with aggressive brushes. Our Fine Hair Detangling Brush was designed with the sensitivity of less dense hair in mind—it has our softest, most flexible bristles, extra-thin and spaced just right to glide through tangles without pulling or snapping. The bristles are also heat-resistant, so they won’t melt or deform if you’re trying to detangle post-shower. Wet hair is also generally more vulnerable to breakage, so our Fine Hair Detangling Brush is a good go-to for smooth, damage-free detangling.
If you have thick hair:
Thick hair is a blessing… until it’s not. Brushing out thick hair can be painful (and an accidental arm workout). It’s why we made the Thick Hair Detangling Brush—it makes detangling dense hair easier, faster, and far less painful. This brush features our most rigid bristles, longer and stronger to brush thick hair without having to yank through. They have just the right amount of flex to power through tangles and keep your dense hair happy and healthy, without the damage.
If your hair is somewhere in between:
Maybe your hair is wavy, or straight, or thinner, or thicker. Maybe it’s layered, so it feels not too thick or not too thin. Our Medium Hair Detangling Brush is the just-right brush for most somewhere-in-the-middle hair types. This all-purpose brush has slightly shorter nylon bristles, evenly spaced to deliver the perfect combo of flex and structure. It’s a good go-to, so if you don’t feel like our Fine Hair Detangling Brush or Thick Hair Detangling Brush is quite right for your hair type, Medium is the brush we’d hand you first.
No matter which brush you pick…
Whichever hair type you fall under, each of our brushes are thoughtfully designed to be comfortable not only on your hair, but in your hands. Each brush in our collection features heat-resistant nylon bristles to be used on wet or dry hair for safe styling, but the bristles vary by brush—with different spacing, lengths, and flexibility to suit your hair type. Our signature no-slip velvet grip makes the brush feel more comfortable and controlled, and it’s cushioned to reduce pulling and help prevent breakage.
Bonus: When you don’t just want to detangle…
Beyond our core three brushes, we also have two specialty brushes for specific styling needs:
If blow drying is part of your post-shower routine, the Vented Detangling Brush is for you—it’s designed with open airflow channels that help air move through faster, meaning less heat damage and a quicker drying time for your hair. The ball-tipped bristles are gentle on the scalp and just firm enough to detangle while you dry. It’s perfect for medium hair types, but still a solid choice for any hair type if your goal is to speed up your drying and styling routine.
If you’re trying to achieve that glossy, smooth, second-day hair look, make the Metal Bristle Brush your go-to. It features 100% stainless steel bristles that glide through tangles while distributing your hair’s natural oils from root to tip. It also gently stimulates the scalp, which can boost circulation and help to promote healthy hair growth. We especially love this one for medium hair types, but it works well for anyone who wants to add shine and appreciates a good scalp massage while they’re brushing through their hair.
TL:DR;
We can sum up our brush collection with this: we thought of everything when it comes to hair type, so you don’t have to. Generic brushes don’t account for hair types and can leave you with sore scalps or pulled-out strands, but we tailor by hair type to suit your hair specifically.
If you…
- have fine, thin, not too dense, and delicate hair → try the Fine Hair Detangling Brush
- have medium or in-between hair, wavy hair, or layered hair → try to Medium Hair Detangling Brush
- have thick, curly, or high-density hair → try the Thick Hair Detangling Brush
- want to blow-dry your hair → go for the Vented Detangling Brush for quicker, gentler styling
- love scalp stimulation and a sleek finish → go for the Metal Bristle Brush
Yanking and tugging on tangled hair is the worst, so we really thought these things through. It’s what makes Gimme brushes different from your basic, average brush—they’re too tough, too flimsy, not made to last, or leave you with a sore scalp, but Gimme brushes are made with you and your unique hair type in mind. We’re not a one-size-fits-all brand, and we believe each hair type deserves their own haircare.
